If conservatives, particularly Christian conservatives, were to acknowledge their religiously-predicated passion for God's perceived "Kingship" -- and how that passion undermines their commitment to Democracy -- then a real discussion could begin. 

As a people...

Do we want autocracy? 

Or, do we want democracy? 

Sadly, American conservatives - like their demonically mendacious president - are people whose fundamental inclination is to believe narratives that contradict Reason. 

Thus bound by theocratic conviction, many conservatives subscribe to "totalitarian absolutism" whose tenets (whatever particular form they take) are inimical to the compromise that is the cornerstone of democracy.

Christian conservatives are so inured to believing "historical" events that contradict the rubrics of Science and intellectual rigor that they are predisposed, not only to accept, but to promote -- and even cherish -- "fake news" and "alternative facts."

Unimpeded by The Scientific Method, Christian conservatives are "at home" with beliefs that are not only irrational and anti-scientific but normalize contempt for Reason and Science.

And so we find ourselves -- at least since 9/11 -- living in the psycho-social ruins of The National Lunacy, a shattered political landscape in which fear, delusion and wishful thinking dominate the unwittingly treasonous lives of millions.
